Arnold Blumberg, curator of Geppi’s Entertainment Museum, will be teaching a course on zombies at the University of Baltimore.
Quoted in the L.A. Times, Blumberg says, “Zombies are one of the most potent, direct reflections of what we’re thinking moment to moment in our culture”. His students will read books and comics on zombies, watch movies on zombies, and can either write a final paper or create a final project for the course.
Blumberg has himself written a book on zombies, Zombiemania, and it sounds like he uses the class to not only have some fun with zombies, but also get at the various things zombies can mean in terms of social commentary.
I would totally take this class…even if it meant never watching another zombie movie in the same way again. I mean, I don’t want to deconstruct 28 Days Later to the point that I hate it!
I tried to find the syllabus, or a list of all the movies and books assigned, but could not. That would be fun to get a hold of!
