Street Anatomy optimized for the iPhone and iPod Touch

Street Anatomy on iPhone

Thanks to the iWPhone Wordpress plugin from Content Robot, you can now view an optimized version of Street Anatomy on your iPhone or iPod Touch. It is formatted perfectly to fit the iPhone/iPod Touch’s 320 x 480 screen, so there’s no need to zoom in to read content. Just type in streetanatomy.com/blog into the iPhone/iPod Touch’s safari browser and it will automatically reformat the blog to fit the screen.  Have a go!

The Official Anatomy Tattoo Gallery

Tattoo depicting craniocervical fusion via chaserpaul I finally had time to sit down and create a separate anatomy tattoo gallery. I did this in response to the huge success of my post a while back on anatomy tattoos. The new link to the page is located in the top navigation. There are quite a few new tattoos, so if you’ve already seen the post on the anatomy tattoos, still go to the new gallery and check out the ones that I’ve added to the collection.

Also, I want to expand the gallery as much as possible, so if you have an anatomical tattoo or know of anyone with one, please contact me and submit a picture to the gallery! You can send a link to the photo under the ‘contact’ page.

Happy Holidays!

Well my crazy semester has ended and I’m finally taking a little break for the holidays.

But just for a bit of fun, here’s some great petri dish art sent to me by one of my readers, Niall Hamilton.  Before his career in medicine, he was an environmental microbiologist and would spend time creating artwork using bacteria and fungi.  For example, the black in the snowman below is a yeast commonly found near bathroom sinks.  Gross, yet so festive!

Thanks Niall

Street Anatomy is back up and running!

I apologize for the downtime of Street Anatomy. Two days ago I received a huge surge in traffic because one of my posts made it to the front page of Digg.com. Normally this would be a good thing. But the amount of people trying to view my blog caused my web host to suspend my account. Apparently I was using too many of the server’s resources to accommodate the traffic. It’s called the “Digg effect” and I suggest anyone with a blog be aware of it. Unfortunately I had to learn this the hard way.

I’m currently searching for a new web host that can handle bigger surges in traffic like Media Temple. In the meantime I hope that Street Anatomy will stay up and running. Thanks for everyone’s patience!

Street Anatomy Gets a Gold Bloggy Award!

Gold Bloggy Award

Street Anatomy has won a gold Bloggy Award, receiving a perfect score of 10 on everything from design to content. A big thanks to the Bloggy Awards for reviewing my blog and to all my readers who give me the motivation to make Street Anatomy better everyday!

Here’s what the Bloggy Awards had to say:

A blog on medical visualization, that’s how Vanessa Ruiz describes her blog. She is a graduate student in Biomedical Visualization at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her blog aims to promote medical illustration and 3D medical animation.

Visual Aesthetics - 10
The overall visual theme of the blog is quite simple - grey, black, and white. What wows the reader are the pictures that you can find all over the blog. The pictures are simply wonderful - from real looking anatomical parts to cute drawings of the human anatomy, any reader will surely get hooked looking through the posts.

User Friendliness - 10
Despite the large amount of pictures, the pages load up very quickly. The layout of the blog is very user friendly as well. Categories, links, and comments are all in the middle column while the ads are in the rightmost column - definitely not in the way of the reader.
