Updates

I apologize for the down time of Street Anatomy yesterday.  Apparently I have outgrown my webhost!  I’m in the process of switching over to a new host so please bear with me for the next couple of weeks.  There are lots of plan in the works for expanding Street Anatomy even more, so stay tuned!

Updates

Hello everyone! I apologize for the lack of posts recently. Street Anatomy needed a summer face-lift, so I’ve been toiling away trying to update the design. I finally reached a point of satisfaction…for now. The header still needs to be updated as well. Hopefully I’ll get to that in the near future.

And just for fun, check out this website that uses Flash and 3D to create an amazing interactive experience, Ecodazoo.com. (Not anatomy related, but still great).

20/20 Investigates Plastinated Bodies

Bodyworlds Javelin Thrower

Asking people what they think about Body Worlds is like arguing over religion. There are those that are adamantly against it stating that it’s immoral, disrespectful and exploitative. And there are those who think that it’s educational, artistic and enlightening. Either way it has become one of the most controversial exhibits of our time. And we all know controversy sells.

Tonight on ABC, 20/20’s Brian Ross presents “Human Bodies on Display: Where do they come from?”

A three-month “20/20″ investigation into the business of bodies tracked the ghoulish process to its origins — from a body processing factory on the German-Polish border, to Internet sites that offer the plasticized bodies for sale, to a rundown warehouse in northern China where “20/20’s” undercover cameras saw what has, until now, been kept well hidden.

This is supposed to be one of the best investigations put out by 20/20 in a while, so don’t miss it!

Catch it tonight (Friday) on ABC at 10pm E.T.

Technical Difficulties

I’m trying to update and fix some things on Street Anatomy, so things may not look how they usually do.  Please bear with me as I try to get everything working!

Thanks

Street Anatomy: the First Anniversary!

The Body in Action 1962

It’s been exactly one year since I started Street Anatomy, not knowing whether anyone would actually be interested in a blog on medical illustration. Over 450,000 visitors, 500 links from other sites, and 460 subscribers later, I’d say people are interested! It’s been a successful year and I’ve put a lot of effort into updating, maintaining, and expanding Street Anatomy, and that’s only going to continue.

I’m also developing another site called Think Anatomy, which is going to have a collection of the best educational anatomy resources on the Internet. Updates on that will be coming in the next few months!

Some of the big achievements:

  • Awards: Thinking Blogger Award, Blog of the Day Award, Gold Bloggy Award
  • Mentioned on NBC News in San Diego
  • I’ve been linked to by some top blogs like BoingBoing, Neatorama, Mental Floss, Pharyngula, Medgadget, Kevin MD
  • Mentioned at the 2007 Association of Medical Illustrators annual conference
  • Above all I’ve been able to connect with some of the top professionals in the medical illustration and animation fields. And they have all been gracious enough to share their information and knowledge with me.

Here are some of my top posts over the past year:

I’d like to thank all my readers, teachers, friends, and my mom for helping me make Street Anatomy successful and for giving me the motivation to blog. A special thanks goes to Berci over at Scienceroll for helping me get Street Anatomy off the ground in its early stages and for giving me some great blogging advice.
