Meet Vanessa Tiegs, or rather, meet her monthly friend.

Over the course of three years, Vanessa Tiegs created 88 paintings to affirm the bright red cycle — the hidden forbidden monthly renewal process. She has called her painting series Menstrala, and 13 of those 88 Menstrala are currently available for gallery showings. New additions will be coming this summer 2009. Vanessa donates proceeds from the sale of originals and color prints to The Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research at the University of British Columbia

Essentially, she collected her menstruation over the course of three years until she had enough, mixed it with acrylic paint, and voilà!

This celebration of female anatomy may seem obscure, maybe even a bit morbid to some, but for Tiegs, there is no medium better than endometrium.
