These lovely creepy photos are part of a new project, titled the Puppet Show, by photographers Winkler+Noah. The project revolves around portraits of children retouched to have them appear doll-like. A little reasoning behind this one:
Children we ask too much of, to be perfect like dolls. Children who have become sons and daughters of perfection, pretense and image, manipulated by the media and the social context and who are inevitably loosing their naturalness. An exhibit which becomes a starting point for reflection, sociological research and introspection, to better understand ourselves and the world around us. And to understand that the best present we can give to children is to let them be children.
This makes me think of that hoopla a while back about kids being less immune to sickness because society is so consumed with antibacterial hand wipes and all that jazz that they weren’t being exposed to enough nastiness to build up sufficient immunity, er something to that effect. What happened to eating good healthy dirt? Anyhow, be sure to check out the whole series, the kids are ADORABLE, and the images are wonderfully rendered.
